Notice of Concern
Please be advised, NFC received a letter from G.E. Pink, Board Chair NAC with a complaint about the content of the September 2011 issue of Av-Gas and a demand for a retraction that must be approved by the NAC board. The complaint letter, dated October 18, 2011 was sent by courier to a P.O. Box, then re-delivered a neighboring business. The package containing the letter eventually arrived in the hands of NFC's President.
G.E. Pink contends page 4 of the Av-Gas issue described above; "defames the Airport Commission", "implies the Nanaimo Airport had been singled out by Transport Canada for an inspection as a result of safety problems at the airport, that the Airport ignores safety problems which are "characterized as "accidents waiting to happen" and that "mismanagement" at the Airport played a "significant role" in the crash at your club's recent air show. All of these statements are false and without foundation".
On November 28, 2011, a response on behalf of NFC was hand delivered to Mike Hooper, CEO of Nanaimo Airport. Contact information for NAC board/members is not readily available. In short, the letter affirms AvGas is an independent publication, disagrees with G.E. Pink's interpretation of the article, emphasizes the entire article is written in "I" language, meaning it is one person's opinion or impression of events, and questions why G.E. Pink would copy the letter to a variety of agencies yet neglect the first and more appropriate course of action of contacting the editor of the newsletter. Within NFC's response letter, a statement identified as a "personal note" refutes NAC is responsive to safety concerns and emerging incidents.
